The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company was founded in 1898 by Frank Seiberling. With just thirteen employees, Goodyear began producing bicycle and carriage tires in November 1898. Goodyear earned the title of the world’s largest tire company in 1916 and adopted the slogan, “More people ride on Goodyear tires than on any other kind.” They later became the world’s largest rubber company, based on sales, in 1926. Today, Goodyear is one of the world’s largest tire companies, operating 60 plants in 26 countries. They are the number one tire maker in North America and Latin America. Goodyear’s Wingfoot symbol is known in every civilized country on earth. Frank Seiberling had a statue of the famous god of mythology, known as Mercury or Hermes.
